Date: June 20, Thursday, 2019, 09:00-17:30

Venue: Poster hall, Dohun Global Hallym University, Chuncheon, Korea

Host: The East Asian Association of International Studies (EAIS),

Graduate School of Global Cooperation, Hallym University (GSGC)

With the shifting global environment, the prospect of international development cooperation is also widening. The emergence of culture and trade as new issues of international development cooperation is particularly observable.

First, there is a growing nexus between international development cooperation and public diplomacy which indicates a country’s effort to influence foreign public by sharing a country’s soft power such as culture, arts, and languages. An increasing number of International volunteer programs serve as a key mechanism of human exchange not only to contribute to socioeconomic development in developing countries, but also to disseminate Korean language and Korean hallyu -the K wave- to developing countries for enhanced national image. Second, with the launch of United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, aid for trade has moved to the mainstream of international development. Trade is emphasized as a driving engine to lead all three pillars of sustainable development including the economic, social and environment aspects.

This conference, jointly organized by Graduate School of Global Cooperation, Hallym University (Hallym GSGC) and the East Asian Association of International Studies (EAIS) is held under the theme of “Changing Horizons of Global Cooperation: Challenges and Opportunities”. This conference will provide an interdisciplinary forum to widen our prospect on these emerging topics of international development and to build impetus for new research and cooperation projects for sustainable development in developing countries. We look forward to seeing you at the Conference.
